Course Description
Historical and mythic changes affect us all very personally, but in contemplating them we are like mosquitoes watching a glacier melt and fade. Even though we are all swept along in its currents, the pace of cultural evolution is just too slow for us to see it clearly. Meanwhile, the very meaning of the astrological symbols is shifting under our feet. What 1856 interpretation of “Mars in a woman’s chart” would have any relevance today? How has our understanding of sexual orientation changed? Or national boundaries, religion, race, the natural environment, or the human future? What has psychology contributed to how we understand ourselves and our lives?
Not much of that existed when my grandparents were kids.
Behind the headlines and the social confusion, humanity is evolving. This evolution is clearly mirrored in astrological symbolism. All of it unfolds against the epochal backdrop of the shift from the Age of Pisces into the Age of Aquarius. Punctuating that drama are pivotal outer planetary alignments -- the Neptune-Pluto conjunction of the 1890s, the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of the 1960s, the Uranus-Neptune conjunction of the 1990s, the long-running Neptune-Pluto sextile, and a few others. Helping it all along, we have the shifting combinations of outer planets as they pass through the signs. What does the Pluto-in-Leo generation contribute to these developments? How’s about the Neptune in Pisces kids being born today?
All of these astrological milestones leave their fingerprint on the times, but also live on in the children born under them.
Every one of us is riding these waves -- and no astrologer can be effective in this changing world without understanding them. One theme runs constantly through any positive understanding of these paradigm shifts. Trust the children. Each generation, as we will see, is building on the sweat, blood, and tears of the previous one.
The term “personal planets” is misleading. You have a deeply personal relationship with Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Half the stress you feel -- and most of your highest potentials for self-actualization -- pivot on adapting to their ever-evolving meaning.
Perhaps even more importantly, as you wrestle with, say, your natal Pluto/Venus conjunction, you are also helping to create the human future.
This course may help you connect with your heart, change your sense of what it means to be human, and strengthen your skills as an astrologer in a changing world.
